Recent Graduates Show opens at the Waterfront

The work of recent West Wales Arts Graduates is now on show at the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Docks and continues until 19 February. Among them are Katharine Green, Helen Gillam, Gina Hughes, Sian Jones,  Heidi Smith, Jessie Mason,Rosie Ann Southern, Sian Swann, and ceramicists Jon Gibbins, and Lee Hughes.

The work includes a wide range of media and subject matter starting with the fine figurative egg tempura work of Helen Gillam who's exploring the human condition  with her current concerns about  relationships, perception and illusion and the stories we foster concerning each other.

Katharine Green draws inspiration from the Pembrokeshire countryside,

"I've always painted landscapes and in particular trees as they hold an almost spiritual significance for me" she said.  "In my most recent work I'm focussing on the exposed tree roots near Picton Castle.  I'm interested in the variation of colour and light found around  trees together with their elegant curving lines. "

In the practice of Heidi Smith she takes one on a physical journey of the local landscapes whilst recording her visual routes whether by foot across land or by boat over the sea in mixed media on both canvas and paper.

In contrast Jessie Mason's energetic work responds unconventionally to her physical and emotional journeys based on organic patterns primarily found in the Welsh landscape.

Also showing at the same time is the work of "A" level  photography students from Pembrokeshire College.

David Randell, director of the gallery commented, "We are delighted to show the work of these talented new artists as they are just starting out on their artistic careers and I think the public will be interested to see the range of work that has been produced."

The exhibition continues until 19 February.
